Before I started CrossFit, I thought I had a good exercise routine. I used to go to the gym regularly which I thought was what really mattered instead of what I was doing while I was there. I would hit the Nautilus rounds and then end my workout with a 3 mile run on the treadmill to make sure I broke a sweat. Then it changed over the years, I started running. I ran six days a week logging over a hundred miles a month. My weight was pouring off and no matter what I ate, I couldn’t keep weight on. I’d occasionally run a 5k, 10k, or half marathon. I thought this was what being healthy and in shape was all about. During my running phase, I injured my leg. Since running was all I was doing at the time, I felt lost. I started going to the gym lifting free weights. Unfortunately, I never felt the burn and the sweat that I felt when I was running.
After my husband tried a CrossFit class, he was immediately hooked. He pulled me along to a class to try it for myself. I went in thinking I was in good shape, but after that first class I learned otherwise! When the workout was over I almost threw up and passed out. I became immediately hooked. In just a few months I was lifting more weight than I ever had in my entire life; my run times started getting faster, I had less injuries; and I would end a workout drenched in sweat. From that point forward, I was convinced that CrossFit would change my life, and it has!
I believe so much in CrossFit that I committed myself to learn everything I could about CrossFit. I've dedicated my time to learning, training and teaching others about CrossFit. Then I decided to open a gym with my husband. I believe that CrossFit can work for all people and all age groups. My story above is just that, my story. I have found that everyone who tries CrossFit loves it for their own reasons. It is the most complete fitness regime that I have ever experienced. It will improve whatever sport you play and it will give you a better quality of life to do the day to day physical activities associated with an active northwest lifestyle. The most important aspect of CrossFit for me however, is the camaraderie and friendships you build with other members. Shared suffering creates strong bonds. I have made lifelong friends through CrossFit and that is an experience that you will not find in any other gym.
