Workout of the Day (WOD)

Monday 2/20/12

I know I keep bringing up this CrossFit Open thing but hey, I don’t want you to be the one who’s sad because you missed out on all the FUN!  So only a few days left until the first WOD is announced and they will no longer accept registrations.

There are probably a lot of you that think “that open thing is not for me.”  You are wrong!  The CrossFit Games 2012 Open is for you!  Its an “open” invitation to everyone in the world.

I know that when some of you hear about the CrossFit open, immediately your mind races to some of the athletes in the gym, and yes, you are correct that there are a handful in CFIB that have focused on training for the Open.  They are firebreathers, Rx’ers, done minutes before the rest of us.  You worry that you are not, but so what.

If you’ve taken the time out to look at our website, it is for one reason and one reason only…it’s because you love CrossFit.  Guess what?  That is enough. You have all the tools necessary to sign up and compete in this year’s Open.  You have a rare opportunity to participate in a global event with an extremely unique format that is open to everyone, everywhere.  How often do we have an opportunity to be involved in something we care about on a global level, whether we’re in first place or last place, it’s about participating, camaraderie, support, and to be part of something that is bigger than all of us.

I know you’re sitting there thinking you’re not ready physically, not the best athlete and not really a competitive person…I again say “so what”.  Most of us competing will not make it to the Games or we will not even qualify for Regionals.  None of these are good enough excuses.  When all is said and done with the Open, you’re going to be better at CrossFit which is why you’re here in the first place.  You’re going to be more aware of your weaknesses, you’re going to make some new friends in the gym.  Maybe you’ll discover that you like competing.  Maybe you’ll discover something you can’t do which will become a new goal to accomplish, and you will be healthier & more fit…I could go on with this list, but the real point that I’m trying to make is that you will have a lot of fun.

I guarantee from the announcement of the first workout, to the hours you will spend “leader boarding” and wasting time at work on the CrossFit Games site, to the finals on that will air on ESPN later this summer…you will be glad that you joined in.  http://games.crossfit.com

We have 41 people from our gym currently signed up, let's see if we can get that up to at least 50.  That'd be a great number for a gym our size.  I'm very excited for this upcoming CrossFit Open Season.  First WOD will be announced Wednesday.

Why should you register for the 2012 CrossFit Open?  “You Are Fit…Compete For Yourself”

Skill/Strength:  Practice your squat cleans or  Weighted Pull-Ups 5x5x5x5x5

WOD:

5 rounds for time:
7 Chest to bar pullups (or 3 Muscle Ups)
9 Squat clean thruster (95/65)

Some Saturday Fun.  Your partner couldn't do any work unless you were on the pull-up bar one way or another.

I hope you're planning ahead.  It takes a little effort but cook ahead and plan your weeks food.  This will make things so much easier to eat consistently healthy.  My biggest problem is not eating it all right away :-)
