We have been following the 2014 Paralympic Games and CrossFit Interbay athlete, Mark Bathum, competing at these games in the Alpine Skiing Events: Downhill, Slalom, Giant Slalom, Super-G, Super Combined. Mark did an amazing job at the Olympics, winning two Silver Medals, one in the Super-G and the other Silver Medal in the Super Combined.
For those that haven't had the opportunity to train with Mark (normally an evening class) or get to know him better, here is a little about Mark:
Mark Bathum began skiing at the age of 9, and just three years later discovered his passion for ski racing. Driven by his friends’ success in racing, Bathum decided to dedicate his time and energy to racing by enrolling at Mission Ridge Racing Academy, one of the first skiing academies in the Northwest. Bathum has retinitis pigmentosa, a degenerative eye condition that causes a loss of all peripheral vision; his vision began to worsen after high school.
Bathum took a long hiatus from skiing after high school, as he attended college and spent several years living in Europe and Los Angeles. He returned to slopes in time to compete at the Vancouver 2010 Paralympic Winter Games, where he and guide Slater Story took home silver in downhill. And now Mark can add two more Olympic Silver Medals to his resume from the 2014 Games.
In addition to training and traveling to races, Bathum works fulltime as the Director of Business Development at Cobalt ADP. He also stays busy with investing, following politics, reading and cooking.
And know what makes this even sweeter.....
Please come and celebrate Mark's stunning accomplishments of winning two silver medals at the Sochi Paralympics with his sight guide Cade Yamamoto!
Fresh from his whirlwind USA Celebrity tour, Mark has recently visited with the President in the White House, interviewed on NBC Sports with Skating Olympian Johnny Weir and Olympian Tara Lipinski, been voted "Best of the U.S. Team," and he threw out the first pitch at the M's vs. Oakland game at Safeco Field, so he's been a busy guy since the Olympics, which is why you haven't seen him back in the gym yet.
