What are these kids doing playing online inside Starbucks on a beautiful sunny afternoon? Is getting to Starbucks their way of getting out and doing something? Are online games a sport? Is this a way to be social?!?!? I'm a fan of games, gadgets and technology but there is a time and a place for it.
Maybe it's because I grew up in a different generation. The video games (Atari) of my youth stunk big time. My brother and I spent our youth living in an apartment complex. There were always lots of other kids in our neighborhood. We spent every chance we could playing outside with our friends. Even if we didn't want to play outside, my father would make us go outside anyway, so we had to time our bathroom breaks because once out, we weren't allowed back in. Plus if we weren't outside, we were inside beating each other up (great exercise, ok if you ask my brother I was beating him up while he was always trying to get me in trouble). By the time I grew up (yes, calling me a "grown up" is a stretch funny funny), I ended up not being the type of person that sit around Starbucks playing video games. Big thanks to my dad for encouraging us not to be couch potatoes.
What are you doing to mold your child's future? What are you doing this weekend with your kids? Post in comments.
This Sunday Erin and I are taking our 3 kids on a Fathers Day hike then out to breakfast afterwards, they might complain about it and whine they are tired during the hike but so what :-) They will appreciate it someday and I will enjoy every second of it.
Happy Fathers Day this Sunday.
