This post is a shout out to all the amazing athletes I know and coach here at CrossFit Interbay. I love team workouts and I wanted to give you all a thumbs up after seeing you guys perform so well the other day in a pretty tough partner challenge.
There are two reasons I love partner workouts. One is there is usually built-in rest, and I highly enjoy rest 😊. The second reason is that I usually work harder for my partner than I might if it was just me. So I get more out of my fitness goals and I feel more satisfied with my mental commitment. Win/win.
To be honest, committing to a team workout also carries a tiny element of anxiety that we all need to overcome. We worry that we won’t be as strong or as fast as our partner and that we will let them down if we break our sets or go slow on the run.
To each individual athlete, I want to say thank you to everyone who found a partner and gave it their best shot. You worked hard and did the best you could in that moment, knowing that your partner was working hard too and together you were getting the work done. Maybe you tried a heavier barbell or went for unbroken sets because your partner did. Thank you for using your partner as inspiration to do your best.
And to the community as a whole, thank you for making this gym a place where we all feel comfortable taking a few risks. We know that our friends are happy to partner with us and we will find a way to make the workout successful. We know that no one is going to complain about how slow we are on the burpees. Thank you for taking joy in the successes of your friends as much as in your own. This gym is a better place because each one of you is making those small gestures to make everyone feel strong and confident.
